OBS Media Source SRT live stream audio glitching
Does the audio from your OBS Media Source playing an SRT live stream sometimes get glitchy, desynced and repeatedly interrupted and restarted - also called by some users robot voice?

This issue has been around for a long time, but it started being reported to us more often after the release of OBS 32.2.x. We've recently traced it down to a fundamental design limitation of OBS Media Source not allowing video and audio to resynchronise if network packet loss causes longer portions of the video to be undecodable.

We've implemented a potential fix for Media Source and submitted it to the OBS maintainers. They're being understandably cautious about it, to avoid introducing other unexpected issues, especially as most users of Media Sources play local files, rather than live streams. Nevertheless, we hope to get some sort of fix implemented in the official OBS releases soon.

How to fix it right now?

  • You can download and install OBS (based on ~33.0.0 RC2) with our suggested fix from here or build it from source code.

Keep in mind that this is experimental. If you use it, please let us know if it fixed your problem and if you ran into any other issues - this is important to be able to get the change merged into OBS.

  • Instead of a Media Source, you can use a VLC source, which doesn't have this problem.
  • Some users report that downgrading to OBS 32.1.2 largely reduced the occurence rate.
  • When this issue does occur, the NOALBS chat command !fix can restart the Media Source to fix the audio.
